The weather and cuisine was perfect at the River Winds Restaurant in
West Deptford, NJ. Guests could watch planes landing and taking off across the Delaware while a couple of
sailboats cruised the river below. But the big attraction of the day was a retired geography professor and
sailor who had accomplished what no other person has even dared to attempt. Professor Marvin Creamer,
now 97, was honored at a special luncheon sponsored by Rowan University for his historical
circumnavigation of the world without instruments.
Dr. Creamer gave a fascinating and at times humorous personal review of his voyage. He was
presented a special solar-powered globe for his many years of service to Rowan University,
and Freeholder Heather Simmons presented him with a special proclamation from the
Gloucester County Board of Freeholders.
